Familiar Faces in New Roles

The Los Gatos – Saratoga Union High School District is pleased to announce a reorganization of the district’s administrative team. The district has appointed Julie Grenier as the Director of Educational Technology. Tony Palma continues in his Director role with a new title, the Director of Facilities, Maintenance & Operations, and Technology.

These moves come as a result of two other recent changes in District staffing and organization. Late last spring we decided to shift management in our Measure E facilities bond work to a professional construction management firm rather than managing the entire bond program internally. This decision, coupled with Traci Bonde’s departure (formerly our Director of Instructional Technology), required the shifting of responsibilities. Tony will no longer be responsible for Measure E work, but will maintain responsibility for internal facilities work and maintenance and operations. Tony and Julie will assume and share the responsibilities related to instructional technology for which Traci was previously responsible with Tony mostly responsible for technology infrastructure, networking, and tech support and Julie mostly responsible for the instructional, software, and user support side of the technology house. The combination of these shifts results in a significant savings in our general fund budget.

Both Tony and Julie have been members of our team for several years and will be working closely together as they assume new responsibilities. Julie championed numerous district-wide educational and technological initiatives in her previous role (Manager of Information Services). Julie has been instrumental in expanding the use of Canvas, our district-wide learning management system, and our G Suite tools. As part of the Curriculum and Instruction team, Julie has led countless professional development sessions for our staff, showing them how to integrate technology into their teaching and use as a tool to facilitate school operations.

Julie’s work is both broad and visionary. She has led many key committees, including the district’s  Technology Advisory Committee and the Technology Teacher Leadership Team. She co-led the 2019-2020 District Bell Schedule Committee and has been an integral part of the COVID-19 district response team. In this latter role, Julie helped rapidly transition our staff and students to remote learning.

Tony has been instrumental in leadership of Measure E projects, overseeing construction at both campuses and working to minimize disruption to the work of the district - educating our students.  He has led the work of the Site Bond Committees to ensure stakeholder input into projects so that they best meet the needs of the district, staff and students.  He has managed the Measure E project budgets to maximize resources.  He has also taken on the daunting issue of navigating on-campus safety during COVID-19 and air quality issues.  He has grown the capabilities of the maintenance teams and implemented Akitabox to facilitate more efficient handling of facilities/maintenance needs.  He originally joined the district as a teacher and that background makes him keenly aware of the issues faced by staff every day.

Julie and Tony are  invaluable assets to the Los Gatos-Saratoga Union School District. In recent months, they have worked nights, weekends and every other waking moment to address the critical challenges facing the district.  They truly enjoy their work with our district colleagues and families. We are thrilled to welcome them to their new roles.
